What’s a Chief of Staff?

Chief of Staff roles vary pretty wildly from organisation to organisation but are becoming increasingly popular. We see the Chief of Staff fundamentally as a force multiplier who increases the leverage of the entire organisation. Here are some great articles that have informed our thinking about the role.

What we’re looking for

There is no standard template for a great Chief of Staff, but we’ve listed some attributes that we feel should resonate with the right candidate.

• You are super organized and love bringing order and structure to all areas of your life (and others). Others in this case include our small team of partners, investors and operators.
• You often dream in Notion
• You have a reputation for GSD (Getting Stuff Done), never dropping the ball and proactively managing tasks all the way to completion (the last 10% is often the hardest).
• The theme song to your life is Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger
• You have experience working at a ‘rocket ship’ startup, and at some point have wondered why the VC firms on your cap table looked more like a Reliant Regal
• You might prefer code, or no-code and Zapier, but you often find yourself asking “I wonder if there is an API for that” or some other way to automate and improve the process
• You’re a confident writer with impeccable attention to detail and quality
• Your managers and colleagues would describe you as a self-starter - you don’t wait for permission and have a massive bias for action

Sample of what you might work on

Like any early-stage startup role, no two days will look the same at ReGen. However, we think there a few primary buckets of responsibility:

• Process: Assess, redesign, automate, and manage key processes.
• Portfolio: Own a portfolio of special projects that grow ReGen.
• Automation: You will put systems in place and automate processes where possible so that we can punch above our weight as a remote, global venture capital firm.
